Programme Outline


Duration: This programme runs for 2 semesters


Entry requirements: The programme is open to candidates with:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc., B.Eng., B.Tech. or Baccalaureate Technologiae) in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering and Food Engineering with a minimum of Second Class Lower from the University of Lagos or any other recognized University.
  • Possession of membership of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and registration with the Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) would be added advantage.
  • Candidates will be required to satisfy the Department in a selection process.

To be admitted into the M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering (Thermofluids) program at Unilag, you must hold a Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline, have a degree from a recognized university, and meet specific departmental requirements, which may include a minimum CGPA or a selection process. You also need to have completed the NYSC program and cannot have a degree from an outreach/satellite campus. 
General requirements
  • Degree: A recognized Bachelor's degree from the University of Lagos or any other recognized university.
  • NYSC: Candidates must have completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program.
  • Degree from an approved institution: Holders of degrees from outreach/satellite campuses are not eligible.
  • Transcripts: All academic transcripts must be submitted to the School of Postgraduate Studies before the start of the session. 
Specific requirements
  • Contact the department: Some departments have specific admission requirements, and candidates may be required to undergo a selection process like a written or oral examination.
  • Check for details: Candidates should check the specific requirements for their desired program on the University of Lagos's postgraduate website.
  • Supervisor availability: For M.Phil. and Ph.D. programs, candidates must confirm the availability of a supervisor in the relevant department before applying. 
Application process

  1. Visit the portal: Go to the University of Lagos School of Postgraduate Studies website and click on the "APPLY" link.
  2. Start a fresh application: Select "Postgraduate" from the "Application Type" menu and complete the pre-application form to get a payment reference number.
  3. Pay the fee: Pay the non-refundable application fee (currently N40,000.00, but this may change) using Remita or the online payment option.
  4. Complete the application: Return to the portal, log in with your payment reference number and surname as the password, and complete the application form.
  5. Upload documents: Upload the required documents, including your degree certificate and a passport-sized photograph (JPEG format, not exceeding 15KB)
