INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
The breeding season of birds plays a crucial role in their reproductive success and population dynamics. Understanding the timing and factors influencing the breeding season is vital for comprehending the life history and ecological adaptations of avian species. Among the diverse array of bird species found in Africa, the Village Weaver (Ploceus cucullatus) stands out as a captivating subject for investigation due to its intricate breeding behaviors and social structure.
The Village Weaver is a widespread species found in various habitats across sub-Saharan Africa. It exhibits remarkable sexual dimorphism, with males displaying vibrant yellow plumage and a distinctive black mask, while females are comparatively duller in coloration. They are known for their colonial nesting habits, constructing elaborate nests from grass and leaf fibers, typically suspended from the branches of communal trees. These nesting colonies often consist of several breeding pairs, creating a visually stunning spectacle in the African landscape.
